Snowmobile Ski Carry

There are numerous articles floating around about strapping your skis to your sled. This is what I ended up going with.

I decided to go with the tried and true ATV gun rack method, and I was able to do it without special brackets or fabrication of any kind. All bolt-on.

This system met my usual requirements of simple, bomber and cheap. It also won’t twist the tunnel over time, doesn’t get in the way while riding, stays out of the way¬†while getting un-stuck (not that that ever happens) and components are low profile in case of a roll over. All in all it’s been working out great this season.

  1. Do your skis get beat up by the forward mounting point? Doesn’t seem like there’s a good thing for them to rest against. Do they move around and vibrate and get worn bases/edges from the bracket or the tunnel hardware?

    • They don’t move at all. Between the Voile straps and the straps on the gun rack they stay put. Haven’t noticed any rub points.

      • Hmm. I’m glad it works for you. I tried something very similar, and the straps kept the ski sort of in place, but it would slide up and down the width of the ski, because the strap could slide through the bracket, even though the strap was tight. I’ve devised something a little more complex but that holds the ski very firmly in place. Thanks for your pictures though, they were helpful in moving me forward.

      • Glad they helped. I also had the same concerns about the ski sliding up and down, but figured a second strap bar would solve it. Haven’t had the issue arise though. Hope your solution works out for ya.
